Chitradurga — Kallina Kote, the stone fort — is one of the largest and most dramatic forts in Karnataka, built across a hill of granite boulders with seven concentric walls, nineteen gates and a set of water tanks and granaries inside. It was held by the Nayakas and later by Hyder Ali, and the story of Onake Obavva, who defended a breach alone with a pestle, belongs to this fort.
