Cancellation & Refund Policy

Last updated

Cancel more than 7 days out and you get everything back. Inside 48 hours there is nothing to refund. If the Operator cancels, you are refunded in full including fees, and you never have to accept a credit note.

1. What this covers

This policy applies to anything you book and pay for on thetripindia.com — activity-centre tickets, timed slots, tours and experiences. Listings you only browse (hotels, restaurants, travel agents, taxi operators) are not bookings through us; cancellations there are governed by that business’s own terms, which they will tell you directly.

It forms part of our Terms of Service. Where an Operator publishes stricter terms on the booking page, those apply — and they are always shown before you pay, never after.

2. How to cancel

Email contact@thetripindia.com from the address used for the booking, with the booking reference (it looks like TTI-XXXXXXXX) and the word “Cancellation” in the subject.

The cancellation takes effect when we receive that email, not when you decide to cancel. If you cancel by phone, follow up in writing — the timestamp of the email is what we apply the window to.

You will get an acknowledgement within 24 hours, and a final decision within 3 working days.

3. What you get back

Refunds are calculated on the ticket price you paid, against the start time of the slot booked. These are the platform defaults:

When you cancelYou get backWhy
More than 7 days before the start time100% of the ticket priceOperator’s preparation costs are nil at this stage.
48 hours to 7 days before50% of the ticket priceSlot held, staff and stock committed.
Less than 48 hours beforeNo refundThe seat could have been sold to someone else.
No-show, or late arrival beyond the slotNo refundThe service was available and staffed.
Cancelled by the Operator100% — including all feesWe also try to find an equivalent alternative first.
Cancelled for weather, closure or force majeure100%, or free rescheduleYour choice, not ours.

Payment-gateway charges (the fee Razorpay keeps for processing the original payment) are not returned to us, so they are not returned to you. They are typically a small percentage and are shown at checkout.

4. What is never refundable

  • Payment-gateway charges on the original transaction.
  • Third-party permits, entry fees or licences already purchased in your name.
  • Add-ons already consumed — a meal served, equipment issued, a guide engaged for the day.
  • Bookings made through a third party, or resold to you by someone else.
  • Amounts already settled to an Operator for a service that was delivered as described.

If a service was not delivered as described — wrong slot, closed venue, materially different experience — none of the above applies. Tell us within 7 days of the slot; we investigate with the Operator and refund in full where the description did not match.

5. How long a refund takes

Refunds go back to the instrument you paid with. We initiate within 3 working days of approving the refund:

  • UPI — usually 1–3 working days.
  • Cards — 5–7 working days, depending on your bank.
  • Net banking — 5–7 working days.

Your bank, not us, controls the final leg. If it has not arrived after 10 working days, send us the refund reference we gave you and we will chase the gateway.

6. When the Operator cancels

If an Operator cancels — closure, overbooking, staff shortage, a slot that was never really available — you choose between:

  • an equivalent alternative on another date or with another Operator, at no extra cost; or
  • a full refund including gateway charges.

We do not require you to accept a credit note. If an Operator repeatedly cancels confirmed bookings, we suspend their ability to sell slots on the Platform.

7. Weather, closures and events outside anyone’s control

If a slot cannot go ahead because of heavy rain, a government order, a strike, a road closure or a similar event, you get a free reschedule or a full refund — your choice. We do not deduct anything in these cases. If the venue is open and operating but the weather is merely unpleasant, the normal cancellation windows above apply.

8. Before you call your bank

A chargeback freezes the amount while the bank investigates, which takes weeks and usually ends with the same answer we would have given you in days. Write to us first. If we have got it wrong and you still want to dispute the charge, you keep that right — nothing here takes away your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or the payment network’s rules.

9. Escalation

If a refund decision feels wrong, ask for it to be reviewed — reply to the decision email with “Review requested”. Unresolved complaints go to our Grievance Officer, who must respond within the timelines published there.
