Kannur Fort & Theyyam Day Trip

Kannur

Kannur has St Angelo Fort, built by the Portuguese in 1505 and later held by the Dutch and the British, standing on a headland above a fishing harbour. The real reason to come is Theyyam — a ritual dance of the Malabar coast in which the performer is believed to become the deity, with towering headgear, fire and drumming. Theyyam season runs roughly October to May, performed at village shrines, usually at night.
